Section 3: RP Game Mechanics
Experience and Leveling Up
Just like most RPG's you've likely played, characters on BHOD grow stronger by gaining experience points and leveling up. After you have a Character Approved you'll find your character starts a Level 1 and with 0 Experience (You can find these stats in your member profile under "RPG Stats". Click where it says "[click to show]"). So where do you go from here? How do you gain Experience Points (XP) and level up?
Experience is gained primarily through posting.
Each user gains 2 Experience points for each post in character. Experience may also be given out for participating in larger plot threads. Such threads will be announced by an administrator before they are started.
Leveling up is achieved for every 100 experience points the user gains.
Upon leveling up you will have the opportunity to add points to your character's stats, as well as selecting new skills and/or Force powers. Contact a Staff Member through PM detailing the points you would like to add to your stats and the skills and/or powers you would like, and they will update your profile as soon as possible.
Check the
Non Force User Application and the
Force User Application to find out exactly how many points/skills/powers your class earn per level.
Level and Stat Caps
In order to maintain balance among role players on BHOD, both a level cap and a stat cap have been implemented.
The cap for character levels is currently set at 20, at which point the character will no longer be able to level up.
The cap for stats is currently set at 50. What this means is that once a stat reaches a value of 50, it can no longer be added on to. Stats can however still climb beyond this level with the help of Force Powers/Skills/or Special Items, up to an ultimate ceiling of 100.
Stats and Stat Bonuses
Stats on BHOD act as a gauge of your character's skills and power. This should not imply, however, that numbers should be applied strictly to role play actions. (For example: Having one more point in Range than an opponent has in Speed does not guarantee a hit, or vice versa, higher Speed does not necessarily guarantee a dodge.)
When RPing a battle, stats are to be used only as a guide, not as the letter of the law.Stat bonuses occur in one of several ways; through Skills a character has learned, special items they may possess (These can only be obtained through participation in special forum events), or by way of Force Powers. It is important to note the descriptions for these abilities as it pertains to Stat bonuses. You'll likely see the following disclaimers:
"Power/Skill cannot be stacked" - Force Powers or Skills with this disclaimer can only be used once per battle. So in other words, you cannot use Force Speed over and over and over again to get a ridiculous speed stat.
"Stat caps do not apply to bonuses gained by X up to 100". - This disclaimer indicates that the stat cap of 50 points does not apply when calculating the bonuses gained from the Power/Skill/Item. Stats may continue to be increased up to a value of 100.
Please keep in mind that no bonus is permanent unless specifically stated as such. Most Skill bonuses require special circumstances to be activated, such as the use of specific weapons. Also, they may apply only to specific actions, such as with
Jedi Defense and
Quick Draw. In both these cases the speed bonuses only apply to blaster bolt deflection and the draw of a blaster from a holster respectively.
