For almost a week now, the staff and myself have been discussing role play elements (such as species, Force powers, items, etc.) that we feel might be over powered or otherwise may need to be restricted. We brainstormed some ideas and have come up with a list of suspect elements that could potentially be banned. I'd like to share the list with you all now, and get your feedback. I will be quoting directly from our thread here:
Force Powers:
Force Flight - It's not necessarily overpowered, but I just don't like the idea of everyone's Jedi flying around like Superman.
Combustion - According to wiki this allows people to make things explode at will. Obviously overpowered. (Note that according to canon this is different from the ability to create fire which falls under Alter Environment)
Alter Environment - Speaking of which... I do like this power, but there can be no question it's crazy overpowered. I raise it for discussion.
Shatterpoint - An unbelievably rare skill with a very obscure and powerful effect.
Transfer Essence - Yes, the power that made Cain famous. Infinite life is definitely a cheat code.
Sith Magic/Alchemy - Allowing this would open up a Pandora's Box of a lot of over powered abilities, so I nominate this one too.
Sever Force: Speaks for itself.
(And a side note): Telekinesis is not all powerful and all ranges. We need to maintain a level of realism about how precisely and powerful it is. No pushing lightsaber crystals out of alignment in a fight and no moving starfighter while fighting. This really falls under God modding, but its worth mentioning considering our RP history.
Shadow Arts: Well its a sentimental subject for those of us who've been around a while, but the question needs to be asked, is this really fit for the masses? The ability to make physical clones is on par with Sith Magic (banned), and the teleportation ability is inter-dimensional travel (banned). Then there's the Moonlight tech, which is essentially a license to god mod. This certainly has all the symptoms of a power that should be banned.
Force Travel: Teleportation, which falls under inter-dimensional travel. Also, this involves "ripping the Force asunder" according to the wiki.
Species:
Gen'Dai - Basically walking organ sacs that can't be harmed by traditional weapons and can live for 7,000 years. Though I haven't seen anyone try to use one of these guys as of yet.
The Yuuzahn Vong - While they aren't prominent in this time frame, if someone does some digging around they can find evidence of where some Vong ships were spotted on the very edge of space around this time. Suffice it to say, I think it would be wise to ban them all the same so as to close a potential loop hole that could be taken advantage of.
Force resistant species - This is a pretty broad category, but my line of thought is any species that has total immunity to the Force (the Ysalmiri for example). I'm not sure how many sentient species there are that have complete immunity to the Force outside of the Vong, so this would be a category I would have to research further if we were going to consider it.
Extinct species need to remain extinct: This should include all Mitsukai (with the exception of those approved for the Knights of Tishi), Luminos, Sith, Taung, and any other I may not now of off the top of my head. They are gone, find one that is still in the galaxy.
Bio Aspects:
Canon Characters - You've all heard me say no canon characters in the bios. I think its good for everyone if we don't have people claiming to have been trained by Revan, Naga Sadow or Exar Kun. Very pretentious. (and yes, I am guilty of this with Cain =P)
Time skip loop holes - Basically anything you do to get a character from a time long ago without having to fill in 1,000 years of history, i.e. Carbon Freezing, locking a spirit in a holocron, etc.
Ancient Artifacts - This would be specific things like Ajunta Pall's blade, Marka Ragnos' staff, Darth Revan's Holocron, etc.
Time traveling or interdimensional travel - This one may seem silly, but I think it is wise to mention it anyway. Just for safety's sake.
Armor: I am guilty of this so lets all make needed corrections: Power armor is extremly rare in Star Wars (and almost no existent in this era) and often used for space. I say we restrict it to conventional armor only and have no more walking tanks. Farther armor discussions. Repulsor belts and jet packs need to operate in lighter armor (sense full armor would be much heavier). cortosis, Mandalorian Iron, and the other one (starts with a P) are extremely expensive and rare so no complete suits of indestructible armor. Gauntlets, helmets, chest plates and other pieces (like on Jango Fetts or other Mandos armor) would be find, but not complete coverage (which makes sense with a Power Armor restriction).
Technology: We are doing an Era deal were we are getting rid of anything not of the Old Republic Era.
So cybernetics will be restricted to the cybernetics of the era. They will tend to be robotic looking and most likely strictly replacement orientated. Also members will be reminded that cybernetic replacements need maintenance.
A.I. are still quite advanced even in this era, so if someone wants a droid, I don't see why not. After all they are still vulnerable to ion weapons and electrical discharges (based off of what is seen in the era). No special shielding that is for sure (looks over at Celestial) and human replica droids are going the way of dodo birds.
And that's the list so far.
Now I want to make a few things clear. I have discussed some of these restrictions with several members who have voiced their concerns as to what these bans might mean to their current characters. I am willing to extend a clause in most cases here to allow people who already have things like inter-dimensional travel (Mirror Universe), or character's related to canon characters (Bermfad) to keep their bios in tact, and just ban these things moving forward. This rule wouldn't be able to work with Force Powers your character knows that are banned, however, or species if your character happens to be the species in question. Otherwise however, I think it would be unfair to make someone scrap their bios which have already been approved just because it involves the mirror universe or a canon character.
