Functionality wise it hasn't changed much at all except for the fact that character applications are much less painful in that they require only limited effort to cobble together now.
"Plot" wise the story is supposed to center around a new Mando/Republic war while the Sith are relegated to hiding in dusty tombs in the middle of nowhere while the Jedi try to broker a peace with the Mandos to stop the war.
