Jedi Ranks
Youngling - The youngest members of the order, Jedi are given this rank from the time they arrive at the Temple for training until they are 13 years old at the latest. By this time they are either choosen by a Master to become a Padawan or given the choice to join one of the
Jedi Service Corps.
Important Events: Usually this is when Jedi are taught basic use of the Force (the ability to Control, Sense and Alter the Force), they are taught the Jedi Code, and how to use Form I: Shii-Cho (basic Lightsaber use). Younglings are also provided education in fundamental subjects such as language, mathematics, sciences and history.
Padawan - Jedi typically are Padawans between the ages of 13 and 22, but there are many exceptions to this. Padawans are learners who follow a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master in order to learn from experience. Jedi remain Padawans until they are able to successfully complete all four of the Jedi Trials.
Important Events: The Padawan years are among the most important for all Jedi, they are the years a Jedi will learn the most and mature. Typically it is during these years that a Jedi will build their lightsaber, but this is not always the case. Some Jedi are presented lightsabers from their Masters, or obtain one by other means. The most important events of these years, however, are the Jedi Trials. All Padawans must complete the trials before they can become Jedi Knights.
The
Jedi Trials include:
- The Trial of Skill
- The Trial of Courage
- The Trial of the Flesh
- The Trial of Spirit
For details on what these Trials include, see the link above.
Jedi Knight - A Jedi Knight is a Jedi who has completed his training and passed all of the Jedi Trials. Jedi Knights are ready to be sent on missions by the Council on their own, and are also able to take on Padawans of their own. Jedi are almost never Knights younger than age 22. They can remain Knights however for a very long time. Promotion to Master depends on many factors and is usually determined by the Jedi Council. One requirement of all Masters however is that a Knight must have mentored at least one Padawan to Knighthood.
Important Events: This period is much more wide open, as Jedi Knights can specialize in many different areas. The only universal task of a Jedi Knight is mentoring a Padawan, which most Knights choose to do, and is required to eventually become a Master.
Jedi Master - Jedi Master's are among the wisest and most revered members of the Jedi Order. Do keep in mind that if you're going to be applying for a character at this rank, your bio will be held to very high standards. No character under the age of 30 will be allowed as a Jedi Master.
Jedi High Council Member - Jedi Council Members are the heads of the Jedi Order and determine much of the policy of the Order. Currently there are only
3 seats available for the Jedi High Council.
Specialized Jedi Ranks
These ranks can be given to your characters on top of the general ranks listed above. For Example; Jedi Knight (Guardian), Jedi Padawan (Sentinel), Jedi Master (Shadow), etc.
Jedi Consular - These are Jedi who focus on knowledge and the study of the Force as opposed to combat. Jedi Consulars are usually peace keepers and diplomats, not fighters. As such a Consular would be expected to have slightly higher than normal Force Stats, but less in the way of Lightsaber training.
Jedi Sentinel - Sentinels spread their focus equally between combat training and Force study, as such they are proficient in both areas but do not excel particularly at one of the other. Jedi Sentinels are also known to have more specialized skills than other Jedi, including things like stealth, repair, medicine, and piloting.
Jedi Guardian - The Jedi Guardian is the more traditional sort of Jedi, one who focuses on combat training and are found on the front lines of the Jedi's peace keeping efforts. Guardians focus most of their training on combat, and as such typically will have more lightsaber training, but lower than normal Force stats.
Jedi Healer - Healers are just what their name implies, Jedi who specialize in Force healing. These Jedi can be very important in battles as field medics, though they typically work from the Jedi Temple with the Jedi Medical Corps. Healers usually are not very combat oriented and have high proficiency in the "Body" area of the Force.
Jedi Shadow - The Shadows are Jedi Knights (typically Sentinels) who excel in combat and stealth. The Jedi Shadows work under Jedi Master Alric Dysar and the Council of First Knowledge. The Jedi Shadows are tasked with recovering Sith knowledge and objects of Sith power in order to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands. Jedi Shadows typically work alone to erase the stain of the dark side from the galaxy in secret. Sort of a Jedi Black Ops.
Jedi Templar - The Jedi Templar are a sect of the Jedi Order under the direction of Jedi Master Jor Halcyon. To become a Templar requires a Jedi to dedicate themselves to follow a particular set of "charges". If you wish to have your character join the Templar, contact
Mikdatv.
And more...
These are some of the more typical ranks among the Jedi Order, but you are not limited to these alone. You can go outside the norm in making your characters and give them other specialized ranks, such as Jedi Teacher, Jedi Archeologist, Jedi Investigator, etc. Be creative and have fun with it.
