The Military Character Guide to Brotherhood of Darkness
Introduction: Welcome, this guide will help you construct a military character for Brotherhood of Darkness (BHOD) in order to get it accepted quickly and allow you to get Role Playing (RP). Please note that this is done to help you, not stifle your creativity and while this guide outlines the broader points of a military characters profile it is not the end all know all of military characters. The following topics will be discussed in this guide and key items in every military characters profile:
Age: The first thing that will be considered when looking at a military profile while be a characters age. Most militaries require the person joining to be an adult. While the term of adult varies however most human are considered adults at seventeen or eighteen while a Mandalorian is considered an adult at thirteen, a Balosar is an adult at sixteen and Trandoshan are full adults at twenty five. As a rule of thumb if a species does not give an age at which it reaches adulthood, it will be assume that it develop at a similar rate as a human thus be at lease eighteen before joining.
Basic Training and Advance Training: Basic training is the training that all recruits go through before going into active serves. Within basic training recruits are drilled in order to bestow discipline and provide the most basic skills that all soldiers may need. The time spent in basic training trains does not make one a master at anything however it does give recruits a basic survival training, basic blaster training, basic unarmed and melee combat training, an understanding of military protocol and excellent physical training.
Advance training unlike basic training is training that not every soldiers performs but instead specific to one’s specialization. These could include advance survival training soldiers, training on the operation of a capital ship weapons or the methods of calculating a hyperdrive navigation jump. Advance training often involves more classes and studying then physical training and rigid discipline that are involved in basic training.
Ranks and Military Hierarchy: While the ranks of militaries often have different names what is constant is that one’s rank in a military denotes the level of responsibility in trusted to that person. One often has to work their way through the ranks one after another, advancing after showing the skills required making the next rank in the eyes of someone higher.
Also most traditional militaries are broken into two groups, enlisted personal and officers. An enlisted personal is often goes through basic training a small amount of advance training in a very specific field. While an enlisted person, one is restricted to the tasks they are assigned and the number of people that are responsible for as they do not have any command training. An officer goes through considerably more training then an enlisted personal including a version of advanced training where one is given more training in leadership. Officers often command larger numbers of personnel and are trusted with increasingly important tasks. Also, most specializations in the military require one to be an officer.
The Mandalorian people do not have enlisted personal and officers; but instead the Mandalorians follow those that show the ability to lead and the skill required. This is best seen in the honor that a Mandalorian earns through their actions. A Mandalorian with little honor has yet to prove themselves and as such is not trusted with the more important tasks. On the opposite side, a Mandalorian with lots of honor is battle proven and holds the trust of his peers.
Specializations: No one in the military is good at every task, as such they often have one or two specific specializations. These are not all the specializations in the military but they are some of the most popular and easily recognized.

Specializations: No one in the military is good at every task, as such they often have one or two specific specializations. These are not all the specializations in the military but they are some of the most popular and easily recognized.
- Captain - Captains are officers that are in command of capital ships, transports, scouts and escort ships. A captain is responsible for the safety of the entire crew of the ship they command and the ship itself. The captain has the final say on his ship and is responsible for battle strategy. Captains often specialize in skills such as command, starship operation, starship engineering, space combat tactics, and navigation.
- Engineer or Technician - Engineers are often simple enlisted personal or low ranking officer that specialize in the maintenance, repair, modification of all forms of equipment from speeder bikes to battleships. Often ship commanding officers start out as engineers before going to officer training and getting promoted to high positions. Engineers often specialize in skills such as engineering, repair, problem solving, starship operation and computer science.
- Executive Officer - The executive officer (XO) is a command officer that is the second in command of a ship. They are more or less apprenticing under a captain to prepare them for a command of their own. As an XO they are often responsible for the daily operation of a ship which includes scheduling training sessions, the duties of the crew, commanding the ship while the captain is not on the bridge and providing suggestions or options for the captain to consider. Executive officers specialize in skills which are the same as a captain such as command, starship operation, starship engineering, space combat tactics, and navigation.
- Explosive Expert - Explosive experts are often enlisted personal that deal with energetic materials (explosives). The explosive expert's job is extremely risky and takes a special breed of person to deal with something that can kill them at any moment. The explosive expert is often called to defuse enemy explosive such as mines or to blow things up such as a blast door. Explosive experts often specialize in skills such as energetic materials, demolitions, and computer science.
- Infiltrator - Infiltrators are usually enlisted personnel that are specialized in sneaking into enemy facilities. The Infiltrator then can gather intelligence, perform acts of sabotage or even eliminate a high value target. Infiltrators often specialize in skills such as stealth, close quarters combat, demolitions and explosive, and slicing.
- Marine - Marines are enlisted personnel or officers that specialize in ship based combat. Marines are carried on board most larger capital ships and space stations to provide security and prevent boarding parties from taking over the ship or station. They are combat orientated and are specifically trained in fighting in the tight quarters of a starship. While they do specialize in ship combat they are just as effective on the ground. Marines often specialize in skills such as Blaster Rifle combat and close quarters combat.
- Marksman -Marksman are enlisted personnel that specialize in long range marksmanship or removing targets at great range. The marksman often uses stealth to get into position in order to engage their target at long range with a high powered sniper rifle which often has a scope to provide better accuracy. Marksmen prefer to take out targets at long range and often in one shot if possible. Marksmen often specialize in skills such as blaster rifle or sniper rifle combat, stealth, and marksmanship. *Marksmen and scouts often are shared specializations.
- Medic - Medics are doctors that specialize in treating injuries of soldiers in the field. They tend to be officers having advanced training in medicine. Medics are often not combat soldiers they often only have the most basic combat training. Many militaries do not target medics as they are considered not a threat and do not wish their own medics targeted. Medics often specialize in skills such as medicine and poisons.
- Pilot - A pilot is an officer that flies a fighter or other small craft. While fighter pilots can be trained it is important to have excellent hand eye coordination and spatial awareness. Depending on the skill and rank of the pilot they could be anything from a wingman to a squadron leader. The personality of the pilot often denotes the type of craft that is the best fit for them and most pilots do go through survival training in case they crash land on a planet. Pilots often specialize in skills such as piloting and starfighter maintenance.
- Scout - Scouts are enlisted personnel that move ahead of the main military looking for the location of the enemy and the best path for the soldiers to take. Scouts often specialize in skills such as stealth, tracking, survival training, and blaster rifle combat. *Marksmen and scouts often are shared specializations.
