Bio:
Kino grew up an only child on Alderaan, born to descendants of Ryloth immigrants. His extended family that also lived on Alderaan boasted a long line of Republic loyalists and public servants that belied their relatively few generations on-world, and small number of planetary relatives. Aunts and uncles, grandparents and nephews, his father and his favorite second cousin all served Alderaan in one way or another, whether as representatives in the larger Republic military or law enforcement, in planetary business and politics, and even realms of medicine and R&D.
Kino distinguished himself somewhat at Alderaan University, but not with highest honors. He performed well enough in his new officer training when he enrolled at the Aldera Peacekeepers Academy, but his achievements in the simulations and exercises were hampered by real-world rivalries, disagreements and conflicts. There were fights, and the fact that he won most of them didn't endear him to those who found him "overzealous," "inelegant" and even "brutish." He was also impatient with some aspects of the process of law enforcement, namely the hesitancy of Alderaanian policy to go on the offensive, or to use preemptive or controversial tactics.
He graduated and received his security detail at a respected medical research facility. He grew anxious after some months. While he loved his family and what he considered to be his home, he longed to go off-world and make a difference outside the heady hallways and peaceful streets of Alderaan. And though no one ever questioned his abilities, the knowledge that he'd never achieved anything on par with many of his family -- and that he may never do so -- ate at him continually. Kino felt out-of-touch, destined to be just enough of a success to be an ultimate disappointment.
Against his parents' counsel, he resigned from the Peacekeeper Corps and enlisted at the nearest Republic Regulars recruiting office. Several among his friends and family were keen to remind him of the substantial cut in pay and potential for career and family development. He graciously accepted their critiques and moved forward anyway. His parents, at least, gave him a blessing before he left for basic training.
Kino enjoyed his time with the Regulars, but got his real break from the respectable life when he was contacted by a man who said only that he "worked with key Republic individuals." After two weeks of seemingly random encounters and oddly surreptitious run-ins during his off time with this mysterious Republic worker, Kino was finally summoned to his superior's office for an ostensibly mundane meeting. There, alongside his superior officers, he met with the man who was, in reality, a high-level RIA agent. Kino was being scouted for training with the RIA, and all he had to do was accept the invitation.
The Agent explained to Kino that there were special needs in the greater Republic -- both current, and future -- that required special tactics. There were developing trends and unmet threats to galactic peace just beneath their vision and on the horizon. The RIA was scouting for loyal, reliable recruits with demonstrated skills across a variety of disciplines, and hearts to better the Republic from within and without. As the spiritual heart of the Republic, Alderaan was a natural scouting location. Kino's impressive, if not ancient, lineage, his demonstrated political loyalty, his basic skills and proclivities, and not a few "incident reports" from his training days, were among the things that caught their attention about him. When the RIA representative asked him to board a shuttle already prepped for his departure, he agreed without hesitation.
The months passed. Kino graduated, and was given his first detail. He was provided a handler and a ship with some basic supplies, and his first assignment took him across the galaxy to a backwater desert world he hardly knew anything about, to assist a resident agent with an ongoing investigation into slimy business dealings with a Hutt gang boss. Years into his career as a special agent for the RIA, Kino still hasn't looked back. He will always be a son of Alderaan, but now he is a servant of the Republic.
(Kino has one companion I have yet to create. I have no idea what that companion will be like, yet. When I figure it out, I'll let you know.)
