The Squad Tactical Blaster Carbine was the first weapon to come out of General Synthetics Infantry Weapons RND. A 30 man team was assembled for it's design, consisting of a group of 8 engineers from BlasTech industries, General Syntherics was able to lure away with a better paycheck and 3 Centauri Scientists who wanted to get off Centauri Prime to see the rest of the galaxy. The rest of the team was composed of young graduates, hired by GS to head the project and learn what they could from the Centauri and BlasTech Engineers.
Power: The weapon fires a blaster bolt of medium power but thanks to the Centauri's directed energy weapon research, the bolt has a penetrative effect. The superheated gasses will penetrate slightly into a target before the magnetic field weakens enough to allow the gasses to expand explosively.
Magazine: The weapon has your standard power cell/gas canister design. The gas is loaded via a square container, forward of the trigger while the weapons power cell is contained within the hand grip. The power cell is replaceable, but also has a port for recharging.
The power cell has enough charge for 1,000 shots, while the gas container only has enough fuel for 100.
Accuracy: The weapon is particularly accurate at distance. It can reliably hit a target at 200 yards and has a maximum effective range of 600 yards. The penetration effect is more effective at closer range.
Operation: The STB-1 is a single shot, semi automatic blaster carbine. Power cells are loaded into the bottom of the hand grip while the gas is loaded via rectangular box just forward of the trigger. Once a knew gas canister is inserted, racking the breach back will load the first bit of gas into the XCiter. After that, the vacuum in the XCiter after firing will pull the next bit of gas from the canister automatically. In case of a weapon jam, it's common practice to rack the breach back to clear the weapon and try firing again.
Extras: The STB-1 has a rail system for various extra's and devices. Things from flashlights, to laser pointers to even under barrel device launchers and scopes can be mounted to the weapon which allows for a lot of customization before a mission.
