Name: Bowman Gray (Unidentified Biomass Number 6)
Age: Estimated 150 Years old. “conscious” for 27 years.
Sex: N/A
Height/Weight: /
Species: Unknown
Appearance: Its inert form is an amorphous blob of pinkish slime. He reverts to this form whenever he is unconscious. To maintain a physical identity with the Republic he has a "favorite" form which he takes most often and is the photograph on his various ID's and facial recognition.
Personal Items: None
Starship: None
Personality Bowman is the consummate professional. When It accepts a contract, It follows through with it. It will not be bribed or coerced into abandoning a contract and It prides itself on Its reputation as an honest, professional killer. There is no emotion in what It does, just calculated killing.
It is calm, logical and methodical. It takes Its time and he waits for opportunities. It has no idea if It is actually mortal since It has no sense of aging so It feels no pressure to get things done immediately. It acts when It is good and ready to act
Skills: Bowman doesn't generally use ranged weapons of any kind. He's qualified at the range in order to get a concealed carry permit, but he does not own or carry a blaster, especially since he detests high levels of heat.
He learned language, culture and history by examining various computer terminals. He educated himself using computer systems on multiple ships and bases which made him very familiar with computers of multiple species. The other advantage of "growing up" in space, aboard ships, was he learned how ships worked. He has a general working knowledge of starship mechanics. He's no engineer, but he can troubleshoot basic problems.
He learns quick and he remembers what he learns like a steel trap. It helps that essentially his whole body is also his brain.
He took a self defense class once, just to try it but found it generally useless since he's generally impervious to blunt force trauma.
Shapeshifting: Because It’s form is amorphous, It can manipulate it’s shape, color and density to mimic just about any form. While it can copy most objects visual appearance simply through seeing or feeling, It can only accurately mimic internal structures once he has consumed the object, be it a machine or person.
Its ability to mimc people depends on how much or how little of that person it has consumed. With just a sample of a person he can mimic their outward appearance and some of their internal organs, extrapolating what organs and where they are based on similar things it’s mimicked before. So it may be able to mimic a human’s appearance but without consuming that human entirely the heart and lungs and all the other organs will be from other humans that it has mimicked in their estimated positions. If it does consume a person, it can mimic them right down to the pattern and placement of their nerves allowing It to bypass just about any biological identification system short of a full on blood test. Rental scanners, fingerprint readers, ect are all passable. It can even mimic the person’s gait, speech and body language but again, that requires It to fully consume the person It’s mimicking, effectively killing them so it can replace them.
It can and often does mimic much simpler forms, such as furniture or containers and even some complex machines to a degree. It can survive in space and can even mimic a rudimentary hyperdrive (though not it’s fuel) allowing it to travel without a ship, short distances across interstellar space. The more practice he gets taking on a particular form the easier and faster it is for It to assume it.
It cannot add average mass, but it can cheat in a way by incorporating solid objects into its form. For example, it can not grow to the size of a wampa on command, but he can absorb several objects that might happen to be in the room into his internal mass therefore meaning it requires less of itself on the inside allowing it to expand it’s outside considerably. It does have it’s limits though since while considerably strong, it does not have infinite strength to support all those objects within it. It can shrink its mass though by abandoning bits of itself, allowing it to take the form of smaller objects with reasonable density. It does require that It consume some mass afterwards to regain the mass that it lost.
It can maintain a shape theoretically for an infinite period of time. The act of shapeshifting and maintaining a shape does not drain his endurance but it does require It to be conscious. Should it fall unconscious via sleep or any other means it will revert to it’s inert form of a amorphous blob of pink goo. Bits of it that are separated from the central mass can remain active for a short period of time (minutes) but will eventually dry up and shrivel into dust without the regenerative properties of the main body. Pieces that are separated in such a way have only a basic intelligence, limited to a simple survival instinct and the need to rejoin the primary mass.
Other weaknesses include intense heat (see: fire), some Chemicals and long periods and high doses of radiation. Basically anything that can damage a living organism at the cellular level. It can be frozen though with little to no damage though, effectively putting it in a kind of stasis. It is very difficult for a kinetic attack (stabbing, bludgeoning, beating, bashing, cutting, ect) to harm it as it’s mass can simply flow around the attack. However if it is taking human form and a kinetic attack damages it’s internal human organs, it may effect him in a similar manner to what it would do to a normal human. For instance, if it were stabbed in the heart while it was mimicking a human, the damage to the heart would cause it pain and similar symptoms to that of a normal human until such time as it could adjust, adapt and push the knife out to repair/reform the heart.
Bio
Bowman Gray was first discovered on Hoth. The advance party of Rebel Alliance soldiers who landed on the planet to being construction of the new Rebel Base there investigated the site of a meteor impact not far from one of the permitter outposts. The meteor had been primarily made of ice but upon it’s landing the only bit of it that remained was a high iron content chunk of rock about the size of an astromech droid. The Squad of soldiers who investigated the meteor dragged the rock back to their outpost and set it up outside like a snowman as a cool little prize they had discovered. A few days later, as the rock finished cooling down it cracked a little and one of the patrolling Rebels saw a pink ooze leaking from one of the cracks. He called it in, the Rebel command sent a science team to look at it and the ooze was contained and brought back to Hoth Base for study.
A few tests were run on the strange liquid and it did not take long for the scientists to realize it was a living organism. They found that it would consume just about anything for food, including a Loth-Cat one of the scientists kept as a pet which strayed to close to the open container It was stored it.
After the Loth-Cat incident, It was contained in a water tight container and stored for further study. When the Empire attacked the Rebel Base on Hoth and the Rebels evacuated, Bowman was abandoned with the large medical equipment in the confusion of the evacuation and remained there for a time until the Imperial clean up crew came through, found It and opened the container. That poor snowtrooper was consumed and replaced and when the Imperials departed Hoth, Bowman remained behind. It lived on Hoth for a period of approximately 18 months, consuming as much biomatter as it could. Wampa’s, Tauntauns, random objects strewn about the abandoned rebel base. He even consumed a crew of scavengers who’d come to the base to pick it clean of whatever they could carry away. When the scavengers friends showed up to find their missing crewmen, Bowman stowed away aboard their ship.
Eventually, after stowing away aboard ship after ship, and consuming whatever he could he began to learn language by listening, writing by watching and how to operate things like controls and keyboards giving It access to computers which helped It self teach. Unfortunately, as it only skipped around from scavenger ship to pirate ship to mercenary ship its self taught education came through the colored lens of those experiences. It learned much about the criminal underworld, how to take jobs, how and when to kill, how to assess a threat. During this time it developed its strong sense of professionalism. It saw these behaviors and it observed that those that stuck to the job, didn't kill on a whim and carried themselves with a professional calm were the most successful. Since Bowman at his "heart" is a mimic, it took these traits to form its personality.
During its 20th year of remembered activity, Bowman stopped hiding aboard ships and decided to become an independent member of society. It took Its first job for Blacksun as a low level security detail for one of their lower ranking spice distributors. Bowman's boss immediately realized that its skills were being under utilized and began giving Bowman missions. Bowman carried out these hits with efficiency and precision, earning its boss a certain level of respect from his superiors.
Bowman did not like being used as somebody else's tool for advancement though and resigned from permanent staff of Blacksun, saying it would be more than happy to work with them in the future, but only under independent contract.
It traveled to Nar Shadda to where he took a job for Niobo the Hutt. Niobo ran a luxury transport company and he wanted Bowman to ruin his competitor by destroying their new flagship cruise liner. Bowman got aboard the ship during its final construction phase, disguised himself as a critical part to the reactor coolant assembly and installed himself into the reactor.
When the ship took off and made its first test jump to hyperspace out to deep space, he simply left, removing himself from the engine. With the coolant assembly now non functional, the reactor began to overheat. Bowman borrowed some fuel from the ship, excused himself out the nearest airlock and floated away a safe distance. He watched the ship overheat, engineering sections cooking and then bursting apart when the reactor failed and exploded. Rescue ships recovered some of the shakedown crew and the investigation determined that the vessel left port on its test flight without a fully assembled coolant system which lost the lives of 8 crewman and injured 23 others. The incident, the results of it's investigation and the availability of Niobo's transport ships put the rival company out of business within months. Bowman was paid handsomely.
From that point on, Bowman found his purpose in life. Money was nice as it paid the bills but what it really enjoyed was the job, fulfilling the contract. He started taking jobs from anyone and everyone who would pay. Not all of them were violent, but the majority of them were. He earned a name for himself among the seedier parts of the galaxy as an excellent hitman.
