Zilfer looked out to the approaching army. There was over a hundred figures approaching and he held a grim face. As the Leader of the Eclipse he knew it was his responsibility of whatever happened during this battle. He was the youngest out of everyone within the Eclipse counting even the humans among them. He was the most mature however that had come from living a life of hardship. Being an orphan in Shadowdale was not the best way to grow up. He had found however he had a knack for taking things when people weren't looking, or sneaking past people without them noticing. He wasn't as skilled with a longsword or battle ax like that of his friends nor did he hold anywhere near the grace of his half elven friend Saerel. He managed to get by every time with luck. Even his most dangerous moments he had come out on top, making two narrow brushes with death he had always recovered. Looking at the siege towers steadily working it's way here he questioned whether or not they would be so lucky this time.
"Olidamara, if your watching over this turn your smirk upon us. We are going to need all the Luck we can get." said Zilfer as he kissed the symbol of the Eclipse and replaced it beneath his leather shirt. He motioned for the others to prepare their bows. He hadn't prepared for the siege to come from above on the top of the tower, however now he felt like an idiot only trapping the bottom floor. 'Too late to berate myself now....'
Suddenly in the distance he caught sight of a Wizard on top of a tower and he could tell from the robe it was a man he despised. Not only did he hate wizards but this one in particular. "Ilthorn, that fat orcish war monger's decided to rear his ugly beards eh?" said Zilfer more to himself then the others, he was going to have just the arrow for him. He had purchased a rather rare set of six arrows from a dwarven craftsmen. Dwarves were known for their creativity and sometimes love of explosives. These arrows were built with a special surprise in mind for the recipient.
Lightning arced from down below blasting into ShadowBane Lookout's drawbridge from below. 'Two wizards? Great just what we need, more magic. Infernal things. Blast them and their meddlesome spells.'
Zilfer observed the markers he had placed to measure the enemies distance. 'Still too far away, at this rate they may destroy our drawbridge before arriving' thought Zilfer as a fireball shot out from down below slamming into the drawbridge catching it on fire. Ilthorn began to fly away from the siege tower, and as Zilfer drew his bow back to take aim with his arrow he disappeared. "Damn him." spit Zilfer as a fog descended amongst him and his companions. He rushed back to the stairs to see if he could clear the fog, it was dangerous to stay within the fog where they couldn't see.
"Spread out everyone find out if there's a section without fog!" ordered Zilfer as most of the members up top split to the different sections of the roof. He cleared the smoke along with the Wizard Tammeron. He gave a sigh of relief a moment too soon as a blast explosion erupted from the smoke. Zilfer understood right away as the fireball blasted the smoke away from the area, more then three of his companions had been dropped from the fireball, and one badly wounded and smoking. Lucian dragged his fellow member who hadn't been incinerated along towards the stairs, and Tammeron quickly followed him.
Raged boiled up from Zilfer however at the sight of his dead comrades. Ilthorn had reappeared to the side of the tower over a hundred feet off in the distance. With his short bow it was almost an impossible shot, but he couldn't contain his anger he had to strike back or at least attempt to. On the edge of the tower he took in a deep breath and aimed.
"This is for our fallen brothers! For Shadowdale!" yelled Zilfer as time seemed to stop for a moment. He released his arrow and it flew true straight at Ilthron impacting him and nailing him even as he flew. A large explosion engulfed the wizard and Zilfer could only gasp at what he had done. He had just hit one of the most powerful wizards he had ever met, and Ilthron's body took a dive sixty feet towards the ground. Zilfer watched in amazement and equal disappointment when Ilthron in his last moments of consciousness managed to get off a levitation spell. He rushed to the stairs not wanting to seek the retaliation from the other wizard on the ground. As he came to the other two there was a look of amazement and a wide grin that revealed more then he intended.
"Regroup with the others on the second floor!" said Zilfer as they rushed downstairs to hopefully hold the others off. Soon the siege Ram would begin to hit their drawbridge down below and their tower would be compromised....
