In the past we've experimented with special missions on this forum as a side from the main RP and a way of making extra credits. For one reason or another it hasn't really caught on. Well our latest crazy scheme to make special missions work involves Dungeons and Dragons. Anyone who has played DnD before or is familiar with how the mechanics of KotOR works will have little trouble understanding this idea. For those of you who haven't and aren't, I'll lay it down for you simply right here. To describe it in a sentence, our old stat system tightened up to the point where just about everything that could be argued over is determined by the roll of dice. It might sound ridged, but it actually can be quite fun. Using this for Special Missions would provide a new more interesting way to make credits and even a new place to spend credits. Zilfer, Elifain and myself have been working on this idea for a few weeks now. We're still working on it. I figured I would post this here to let the rest of you know and also see who might be interested. Also if you have questions feel free to ask. If you'd like to check out our progress you can right here: carashi.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=dnd

first question:
How exactly would we earn credits doing this?
Second Question:
Will this be like special mission incarnations of the past where your character will tackle a specific story based mission (Like the battle of hoth)?
Third Question:
How will "rolls" be handled because this seems like the easiest way to cheat.

first question: How exactly would we earn credits doing this? Completing missions will earn credits. Defeated enemies and bosses will "drop" credits as well. Credits will also be used to buy items, weapons and armor within the DnD. Though we're still working on exactly how that will work, that is the idea. Second Question: Will this be like special mission incarnations of the past where your character will tackle a specific story based mission (Like the battle of hoth)? Yes, there will be that. Also there's no reason we couldn't do new missions with it as well. Third Question: How will "rolls" be handled because this seems like the easiest way to cheat. Zilfer found a code which I've added to the test board I gave the link to above. You can test it out for yourself if you want. Just go into the testing thread and post [dice=20] (the number equals the number of sides and can be any number you want really). Zilfer and I have tried and there doesn't seem to be any way to cheat it. Also, as with the dice roll from the anniversary, it wont work if you post it in the quick reply box.

but, theoreticall speaking, could one not just make a post with their role, and if their role turns out to be something they don't want, hit the modify/post button over and over again to generate a favorable number?

No, actually. Modifying the post does nothing to change the roll (again, Zilfer and I have tested this). Also I've added a code that prevents members from deleting their own posts while in this board. So no posting a roll then deleting and reposting if it isn't favorable. In reality it would be very hard to cheat this, if not impossible.

Also I've tried Moddifying out the post's roll hitting enter, then going back and reposting the roll and it comes up with the same number every time for that dice roll. You also cannot cheat on your dice roll by putting in another sided dice because it tells whoever's looking at the Dice roll how many sided dice you have and if you added any bonus' or negatives to your roll. If you have any more ideas at how to 'cheat' the system let me know and I will test it out in every angle I can think of.

I'm up for participating in it, though I'm also wondering, given the fairly small community on here, even given the opportunity, who would cheat? I mean say Zilf missed something, is it going to make a difference if someone figures out how to do it? I honestly am not that worried about it.

I think I would get suspicious after awhile. Five 20's in a row might get a bit suspicious.

I honestly don't expect anyone to cheat. I know most of the people on this forum pretty well and I don't foresee it being a problem. But just to assuage any doubts people might have, we're 99% sure you can't cheat anyway.

I have heard that the idea is almost completed, and shall be put into position within the month.

An update on this:
Everything is just about ready to go. Myself and a few other staff members are in the process of running the system through a little test run. I expect to begin setting things up here on the forum by next weekend, so look for that. If you're curious, everything we're doing can still be seen through the link I provided in the first post. Also if there are any more questions please do ask.
