Overview
The Stingray was Designed by Ilum Shipyards using all the information they had gathered in their projects in the past years. It's a fast starfighter that was also designed for the private sector as an escort ship. It was originally designed to be a balanced fighter but late design changes turned it into a very quick ship with advanced electronics. It was also designed with longer ranges in mind in order to keep up with convoys on escort missions.
Engines
The ship used three Incom designed Ion engines. Her lightweight frame allows for great acceleration and maneuverability. It uses an etheric rudder to maneuver and thrust from the main engines to change direction.
ten miniature ion engines placed about the hull act as maneuvering thrusters. They can spin the ship on any axis, 360 degrees in 1.2 seconds. A dizzying maneuver for the pilot for sure but incredibly useful once mastered.
The ion engines it uses are very powerful and extremely efficient. It can operate for 30 hours of continued use which can be stretched out to several days worth of time if they're simply powering the ships life support and secondary systems. The average operational life of a single Stingray without refueling is 72 hours.
It has a class 1.5 hyperdrive with no backup but redundant systems to help the one hyperdrive stay viable, even when damaged.
It's also equipped with a repulsorlift engine for assistance when operating within atmosphere.
Hull
The main hull is comprised of 1/2 inch 9093-T7511 grade Durasteel. It's pressurized so that a life support system can maintain breathable atmosphere for the pilot within.
The Stingray's hull is very aerodynamic for atmospheric operations and it's wings even provide lift at high speeds to assist with flight. Her stabilizer fins are have control surfaces to aid in maneuverability as well, making the fighter especially suited to atmospheric maneuvers.
Additionally, the wings separate out from the main fuselage to enter into a "combat mode." This combat mode allows the laser cannons greater access to space in order to vent their heat, as well as separate the wing mounted engines a little bit to provide more maneuverability. However this changes the fighters flight characteristics during atmospheric travel, making it a tad slower and unstable in the air.
The area immediately aft of the cockpit is a covered astromech slot.

Sensors
The Stingray has an advanced sensor system which was installed as part of it's advanced electronics. The ship is just as much science vessel as it is transport or warship. It has a standard radar sensor system with IFF sensors radio-telescope receivers to receive and interpret EM signals. It also has magnetic and gravity sensors stored in the forward wingtips and a spectral analyzer for finding out what things are made of.
With all this information the fighter is uniquely suited to scout locations, act as the first explorers of a system before a larger mothership or convoy jumps in, aid in research teams far from their ground based equipment and even pinpoint soft points in an enemy for attack.
All information is stored in a black box hard drive so should the fighter go down, all information it was recording at the time might be saved to aid crash investigators. The ships astromech is also tied into all the sensors and filters out the useless information for the pilot when in combat.
Communications
While the ship has a standard communications array, there are two special things about it. First is that it's equipped with a holographic projector to the left of the control console so that the pilot, if he so chooses, can receive holo messages with full visual. The projector makes an image about 6 inches high though, so complex images will degrade as they're shrunk down.
Second is that the ship is equipped with it's own hypercom. The ship must stable, and it requires the Astromech to use, but it can send hypercom transmissions from deep space or the unknown regions where a communications relay would be unavailable.
Defensive Systems
The Stingray's shield system is light by any standard and is projected up on a forward and rear arc. The shield generator is on the underside of the ship between the landing strut compartments.
It has a basic Electromagnetic Counter Measure package that makes attaining a missile lock more difficult and can mess with enemy missile guidance at long ranges. It also has a compliment of decoy flares stored in the underside of the cockpit. It has 20 flares that launch in clusters of 5 at a time. The cluster of flares emit Infrared and Radio radiation in random pulses which have a chance to attract/confuse incoming missiles.
As a last ditch effort for survival, the ship has an ejection system. the cockpit module can launch out of the fuselage via an explosive charge. The module has enough power to last for 8 hours. Coms and sensors are still operational in the module for those 4 hours allowing you to call for help. A distress beacon also kicks off and runs on it's own power supply for up to 12 hours. The distress beacon power supply also power for minimal life support, keeping the module just above freezing and filtering the air for as long as possible.
Weapon Systems
2 Rapid Fire Light Laser Cannons (Right next to the cockpit, one on either side.)
2 Heavy Laser Cannons (Right next to the Rapid fire laser cannons)
Her rapid fire laser cannons can fire at nearly 600 bolts per minute but suffer from reliability issues after firing them for extending periods due to overheating. A safety alarm was installed to let the pilot know when the weapons are approaching critical heat levels and should be given a rest.
The heavy laser cannons are set to fire linked and have an emitter array that allows the two cannons to angle their fire inwards to focus on a target between them. The heavy laser cannons are rated for heavy starship hulls to give the Stingray some punch against larger vessels.
Because of the heat management problem, the weapons will only fire if the ship is in "combat mode" as a safety precaution.
