In Chains (Age 0 - 6)
Alexis was born the daughter of a Firrerreo slave on Nar Shaddaa. The identity of her father would come to define the early portion of her life. Alexis' mother, Nara Dorne, was owned by a slippery snake of a Twi'lek named Ilesar. As a club owner, Ilesar kept many slaves to dance and serve his customers. The Twi'lek was also not above consorting with his chattel, be it consented or by force. Nara was among his favorites.
When it was discovered that Nara was with child, Ilesar was overjoyed at first; that was until the baby was born. Alexis Dorne was a pure Firrerreo, obviously not the offspring of Ilesar, but of one of his male Firrerreo slaves. This sent the Twi'lek into a fury. He had all of his male Firrerreo slaves executed, and may have had Nara and her newborn daughter as well... though he had more sadistic plans for them.
Still smitten with Nara, Ilesar kept her close. The child was not so fortunate. Ilesar sold her to Kraj X'jun on Ylesia to work the X'jun family's land and in their factory, producing spice for export. Kraj X'jun was an entrepreneurial Falleen who took ownership of Alexis, along with many troublesome slaves. Despite their dealings in the rather lucrative spice trade, the X'jun family accrued most of their vast fortune through the buying and selling of slaves. Kraj would often boast that his factory was where rebellious and otherwise undisciplined slaves were sent to be "broken in". It was said the Falleen had a particular talent for putting a healthy dose of fear into a slave, and in Hutt Space, this in and of itself was a commodity.
In this Hell was where Alexis found herself for the first few precious years of her life. The horrors she witnessed as a child would never leave her. Working out in the fields, Alexis would first witness Kraj X'jun's infamous cruelty first hand. The Falleen would stalk the fields and factory floor throughout the day, unabashedly brandishing his lash over his shoulder as he did so. Kraj would think nothing of scourging any slave he felt not to be, as Kraj would say, "putting his back into it", whether the offense be real or imagined. This unpredictability struck a terribly efficient terror into each and every slave as the Falleen made his rounds. And that was the punishment levied out to the slaves that were doing their work. The Force help you if Kraj should discover you taking a break. At only 6 years old Alex had witnessed at least five men and women scourged to death, and one shot at point blank range for little more than taking an afternoon constitutional.
Fear was all Alex had at that age. It was all she knew. Even as she watched other young slaves her age die from exposure in the fields, Alex felt nothing but fear. Anger, hatred, resentment, sadness, grief; these were useless emotions when one found themselves in such hopeless circumstances.
No Such Thing as Luck (Age 6)
Fortune would smile on Alexis for the first time in her life when a Bothan trader arrived on Ylesia with a Human Jedi Padawan named Marcus Reese and his master, an Epicanthix named Ganner Dysar. The Bothan trader had enlisted the help of the Jedi on Muunilinst when the Master-Padawan duo had rescued his cargo from a group of pirates. He'd convinced them to travel with him to his final destination, just to make sure the pirates weren't simply waiting for another chance to strike.
The Jedi hardly approved of the slave culture that dominated Hutt space, though unfortunately there wasn't much they could do as Ylesia was beyond the Republic and the Jedi Order's jurisdiction.
After loading up several crates of spice, The Jedi and their Bothan client left Ylesia headed back to the core. During their trip, Reese noticed something odd, a strange tremor in the Force. Following it to its source, Marcus discovered one of the spice crates in the cargo hold had been opened and a trail of spice led to a frightened little girl, huddled in the corner.
Alexis had fled from Kraj's lash after she'd been found not to be in the fields working when she was supposed to be. Alexis hid herself in one of the spice crates that happened to then be loaded onto the Bothan's ship. Master Dysar recognized the strength of the Force within the girl. It was no accident that brought her to them. It was the will of the Force.
Eager Young Padawan, Brimming with the Force (Age 6 - 23)
Alexis was brought back to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant where she trained as a Youngling and eventually was taken as a Padawan at age 13 by Marcus Reese. At 22, Marcus had only just been Knighted himself. The relatively small gap in their ages may have been a concern, though the Council had faith in Reese's abilities.
As a Sentinel, Marcus Reese would join the ranks of the Jedi Shadows whose job it was to hunt down the Sith and their dark artifacts throughout the galaxy, rooting them out and returning them to the temple to be locked away or destroyed. It was in this field that Alexis would gain most of her training.
Alexis had a natural talent for the Force, but nothing too spectacular. Clearly her greatest asset was her athleticism. From a young age Alexis was petite, but powerful. Years working as a slave had exposed her to hardships her peers knew little to nothing about. Alexis was always good in a fight, using her speed and flexibility to its fullest. Her lightsaber abilities progressed quickly, Alexis mastered Shii-Cho by the time she was 15 years of age. At this point Reese decided to teach his Padawan Ataru to fully utilize her acrobatic style of combat.
Over the years Reese and Alexis were an inseparable team. Though Alexis was still slow to trust others, she held a special fondness for her master, a man whom she'd come to trust completely. The two were more than master and apprentice, they were then and remain now, friends.
Revenge (Age 23 - 25)
After being Knighted herself, Alexis continued to work with now Master Reese, joining the ranks of the Jedi Shadows. It was one particular mission that begin the separation between the goals of the Master and his old apprentice.
The Sith Empire had grown into a real threat, and with it the Hutts flooded into the Core worlds, bringing their slaves with them. One particularly gruesome display on Byss caught Alexis' attention, as an old Twi'lek male had dragged several female slaves out into the street and began to beat them bloody.
Alexis said nothing. Not to Marcus, not to the Twi'lek. She simply walked over to him, ignited her lightsaber and sliced off the slave owner's hands. Marcus was taken aback by the outburst. He knew that slavery was a soar spot for Alexis, though he'd expected more from his Padawan. She subsequently apologized for the incident, but would later recant.
Some years later Alexis would admit to Marcus that she'd found it harder and harder to contain her anger with time. The memories from her childhood simply would not go away. The wounds were still fresh, even after nearly twenty years. Alexis confided in her old friend that she intended to go to Ylesia, and to kill her tormentor.
Marcus, of course, attempted to talk Alexis out of it. "Killing that man will not bring you peace," he said.
Alexis was not convinced.
"I've seen many Jedi like you," Marcus reasoned, "Jedi who live their lives for revenge. Their stories never have a happy ending."
Alexis would spend years fighting her emotions, though ultimately the pain of her past would prove too strong.
The Legacy of Cain (Age 26 - 29)
Alexis put on a brave face and pressed forward, continuing her duties as a Jedi Shadow. The fall of the Sith Emperor would lead to a vacuum of power. After his death, it was rumored that the Emperor had left behind a holocron. Countless Sith would seek the artifact. The Council recognized the vital importance of finding it first.
Many Shadows were sent to seek out the Emperor's holocron, but none would find it... or so the Jedi Council believed. On Byss Alexis stumbled across what remained of the small pyramid that once contained the knowledge of the Sith Emperor. Though the matrix had suffered major damage and was missing much of its contents, the item still radiated dark side power, an echo of the man who once wielded it.
Holding the holocron and feeling the ghostly imprint of the Emperor's power, Alexis was enthralled. Just the presence of a broken trinket that had once belonged to this man was more intimidating then even the strongest of Jedi Masters. This was Alexis' first taste of the dark side.
Something about the holocron attracted Alexis, she found herself unwilling to part with it. She never reported the finding to the Council, or even to Reese. Instead she removed herself from the Jedi, spending longer and longer periods of time alone, studying the nature of the dark side and basking in its power. The strange behavior did not escape Marcus' notice.
After a particularly icy conversation, Alexis left the temple, not to return for nearly a year. Marcus was concerned, not just due to his friends change in disposition, but more that he knew what was to come. Through the Force Marcus had seen where his old Padawan was headed. He understood that if Alexis returned to Ylesia, it would be the end of her life as a Jedi. He went alone to the planet to try one more time to save her from herself.
So Much More Than Hate (Age 30)
Alexis landed on Ylesia to find Marcus waiting for her. They both knew why she was there, and what it would mean should she go through with what she'd planned. Marcus made one last plea.
"Stand aside. This has to be done, Marcus. There's no need for you to be caught up in this."
"This isn't you. I don't know what's happened to you over these past few years, but I can tell you're hurting. Let me help you!"
"You can't," Alexis sighed, "Vengeance is all that is left for me. I had thought that my life had been a curse, but I have a purpose now. I have the power to make a difference, to right these wrongs and save countless millions from my fate."
"We can help them, Alexis, but not like this. Look inside yourself, beyond the pain, beyond the slave! You are a Jedi, a Knight of the Republic, a protector... and a friend. Please, Alexis, there's so much more to you than hate."
"I believed that once." Alexis could not contain her emotion as she drew her lightsaber from her robes, "I'm sorry old friend. I guess I turned out to be quite a disappointment."
Marcus drew his own lightsaber, igniting a bright yellow blade, "No." He answered with a smile.
The clash between Marcus and Alexis was enough to allow the X'jun family to escape, but unfortunately marked the end of Alexis' days as a Jedi.
Into the Abyss (Age 31 - 56)
For the next twenty years, Alexis hunted Kraj X'jun relentlessly. Hate fueled her. Anger kept her moving. The two emotions like an inhale and exhale came to sustain Alexis and define her every movement. She would hone her abilities over the years, falling deeper and deeper into the abyss of the dark side.
When finally Alexis caught up with her tormentor, the Falleen was nothing but a sad, pathetic shell of his former self. Old and decrepit, age had soured his mind and left him unable even to recognize Alexis. It was a final twist of a knife which had been lodged in Alexis heart her entire life. There was no challenge in killing Kraj, nor was there any satisfaction.
After Kraj's death, Alexis spiraled into despair. She needed a new direction, one she would find in researching the old Sith Empire.
Alexis' years as a Shadow had given her access to a fair deal of Sith knowledge, including the locations of their ancestral homes. Ziost, Korriban, and Dromund Kaas. Alexis investigated each world, searching for clues as to the identity of the old Sith Emperor with whom she'd become obsessed after spending decades with his holocron.
It was on Dromund Kaas, in the old Sith Citadel that Alexis found her first big break. Shards of the holocron's emitter matrix that had been collected by the Sith that had tried to rule in the Emperor's wake were kept here. Many were still missing, but the very idea that the holocron could be reconstructed had not occurred to Alexis until this point. Now she had a new purpose, to rebuild the Emperor's holocron and rediscover his lost powers.
In recent years, Alexis began to reconstruct the Citadel on Dromund Kaas, and welcome new Sith who shared her passion for the dark side, and her desire to awaken the long lost Sith Emperor.
