Characteristics:
With a vaguely skeletal chassis, glowing red eyes, gleaming black armor plating and the cold, methodical mind of a killer, Sigma was designed to inspire fear in the hearts of his enemies just as much through his presence as he was through his exceptional skills.
During his time as a bodyguard to Lady Nisha, Sigma was often seen shadowing the Dark Lady, his unflinching gaze constantly scanning every corner for the faintest hint of any threat. Equipped with a deadly array of weapons to manage any threat, his preferred method of attack was to eviscerate foes in close combat with his lightsaber, or any number of other such weapons - including his own two hands if need be.
After Nisha's demise though, his appearance changed dramatically. His normally pristine chassis had been marred and scored by the weapons of his numerous victims, each a testament to his rugged design and impeccable skill. His programming was reduced to a few meager core processes, his assassination protocols all but forgotten by the time he was rediscovered by the newly anointed Apprentice of the Dark Lady - Alma.
Despite this though, he continues to serve loyally as always, all too eager to carry out any task he is assigned.
Background:
The once faithful servant of Lady Nisha, Sigma was originally built to serve as an assassin droid. After the fall of the Sith Empire though, he was lost for several years following Nisha's demise. By a rather ironic twist of fate, he was not present at the fortress on Thule at the time of the Jedi raid, having been sent on an assassination mission by Lady Nisha days prior to dispatch a Jedi Master that she suspected had discovered her location and was plotting to assassinate her.
When Nisha was killed by the Jedi assassins, Sigma's programming compelled him to terminate his current objective and return to the stronghold on Thule. While his programming did function properly, he never managed to make it back to Thule and was lost somewhere in the Outer Rim.
What caused him to fail to return to the fortress has never been discerned, but a few years after Nisha's death he was discovered aboard a derelict freighter near the Vergesso Asteroid field by a pirate crew. The crew claimed Sigma as their own and reactivated him and reprogrammed him to serve as a protocol droid and navigator – oblivious to the droid's true purpose. Sigma served with the pirates for a few years before he was sold off to a scrap yard in favor of some extra credits. Rather unceremoniously, Sigma was taken to the scrap yards on Ord Mantell where he was purchased and tossed into a scrap heap to be melted down.
It was perhaps only by pure luck that Alma happened to be on the planet at the time and noticed Sigma first before he could be melted down. Taking the droid into her care, Alma rebuilt him to the best of her abilities and reprogrammed him to serve as her personal aid.
As Alma's only companion, Sigma serves primarily as the pilot for her ship as well as a protocol droid and tactical adviser. She also managed to restore some of his base combat protocols and has upgraded Sigma with a new training program that she can use to practice her lightsaber skills with. Since he is a droid and does not feel pain, weakness, fear or fatigue, he makes for an excellent sparring partner who excels at pushing Alma to her very limits. Outside of fulfilling these menial tasks though, Sigma's assassination protocols remain hidden within his programming. Most of these programs were automatically terminated upon Nisha's death and remain dormant within his core systems and sub-routines.
Though Alma has tried tirelessly to activate these protocols again, she is unaware of exactly how to restore Sigma's full functionality as access to his assassination protocols is restricted by voice print identification software that is programmed to recognize Nisha's specific vocal pattern.
Arsenal/Combat Features:
At the height of his functionality, Sigma boasted an impressive array of skills equaled by few other droids in his class. Nisha spared no expense when it came to crafting her creation and outfitted him with extensive programming that included a wide range of software packages that included, among other things, martial arts tactics, ranged weapon optimization upgrades, stealth/espionage protocols, translation software that allowed him to communicate in a number of alien languages, and even lightsaber combat techniques.
His obedience was equaled only by his lethality and he served the Dark Lady for years as a reliable and efficient bodyguard.
Though much of his combat protocols have been disabled due to the death of Lady Nisha, Sigma is still a fairly dangerous opponent due simply to his sheer strength and unfailing loyalty. Many of his base combat programs have remained active though, allowing him to effectively wield most blaster or projectile weapons and some melee weapons. Unfortunately, his lightsaber programs have been deactivated, reduced to a mere shadow of their former functionality to the point where they are now only used as simple training aids by Alma.
Outside of his diminished combat protocols, Sigma can still serve as a valuable training tool, a loyal servant, an expert navigator and a highly skilled pilot. It is programs such as these that Alma has managed to salvage in order to keep him active and useful, treating him as something of a relic that reminds her of her late mentor.
