Bio:
Mazaru began life like many on his native world of Anzat: born, nameless, into a coven of siblings and extended relatives separated in age by gaps of decades and centuries, rather than years. When he was 25 years old (practically a toddler by Anzati standards), he began his training in the skills and philosophies of the hunt at a nearby Tizan-Ekkei temple – ideologies that would forever shape his life once he came of age and began his pursuit, as all Anzati did, of the “soup,” or life essence, of sentient beings.
Mazaru had a strong connection with the Silent Voices from an early age. The Anzati conception of the galactic life essence the Jedi termed “the Force,” the Silent Voices were the powerful influence of that essence that surrounded the planet Anzat in the form of luminescent, nocturnal gases termed the Sea of Memory. Mazaru’s connection manifested itself beyond typical Anzati expectations, through basic telekinetic capabilities, telepathy, and heightened speed and awareness.
The Voices most powerfully touched him with glimpses and misty visions into times and places. Such perceptions were like peering after wisps of movement in the eternal clouds that slumbered along the mountain ranges and lush valleys of his ekkeiku (the Anzati term for the domain of a particular family or clan/coven, as understood by the projected contribution of offspring to the nearest presiding Tizan-Ekkei temple). Some visions took more shape with concentration, while others more complex only enveloped themselves deeper in the fog; and whether they lie in the past or the future, whether close or distant in time’s proximity, he sometimes didn't know until the events occurred in front of his face.
Along with his burgeoning connection with the Silent Voices, Mazaru also possessed a strange biological mutation: his probosces unfurled from his forearms, rather than from within the cheek folds of his fellows (who used these glandular structures to feed on the life “soup” of their victims). Together with a growing affinity for the technological, Mazaru’s traits and talents set him apart from many of his peers.
In times away from the rigorous Tizan-Ekkei training, Mazaru would flit off to the “aliens’” spaceports: those dingy, dimly-lit haunts that hung in Anzat’s orbit and existed as the only turf allowed to the smugglers, spacers and traders who meandered this unpopular stretch of mid-rim space. Business both legitimate and illegitimate was conducted there beneath the haze of neon lamps and flickering glowpanels, and the cluttered cantinas and hallways were always full of stories and booze, sabacc and blaster holes. Mazaru loved finding junked droids to reprogram, used datapads to repurpose and not a few computer terminals and locked containers to break into.
It was this time on the orbital stations that sent Mazaru to Nar Shaddaa, once he came of age and passed his final Tizan-Ekkei rituals. He had tasted the “soup” of smugglers and mercenaries, breathed the air of luck and desperation, felt the electricity of the quick-draw duel and the exhilaration of last-second escapes. Stealth, seduction, swift wit and swifter weapons, the most basic tools of his training, had been part and parcel of regular interactions for the spaceports’ denizens. And it was there in the holo-dance hovel Maggot’s Cantina that he’d met the Twi’lek freelance tech-modder Ju’hal, who outfitted him with cybernetic augmentations after Mazaru successfully rigged his sabacc deck. So once he began to feel the limitations of this closed environment, he was naturally drawn to the Smuggler’s Moon, where he could really stretch his legs and immerse himself.
Mazaru has spent the last two years based in Nar Shaddaa, finding work as a mercenary, covert agent, assassin, gambler-for-hire and even technical maintenance specialist. He made friends with a few Serrocan refugees, and acquired an old Aurek fighter after winning a bet against one of them. After gathering the parts, his friends helped him install the stealth modifications. Now, with a personal vessel and the call of the Silent Voices beckoning him, Mazaru continues to hone his skills and pursue the greatest and most challenging “soup” he can find among the galaxy’s masses.
