As a protocol droid, PP can speak just about any language there is. He is familiar with the customs and courtesies of hundreds of thousands of worlds.
As a flight attendant, he is programmed with data on all known galactic flight laws and regulations, including starship safety systems.
As an emergency Co-pilot, he is programmed to be able to take control of the spacecraft in the event that both the pilot and co-pilot become incapacitated. He can perform basic flight functions and navigation.
Bio:
The Series “R” Protocol & Pilot Droid was designed, it was to be the quintessential service droid for spaceline companies around the galaxy. With one of these on board every passenger spacecraft, no customer would go without service aboard a flight ever again. They could augment any crew and provide a higher level of service than most flight attendants could ever dream of.
That is until the PP-S line came out. The PP-R line was undergoing a replacement program with General Synthetics buying back the R Models and replacing them with S Models. PP-R31 was on the chopping block to be replaced. It, and the ship it was aboard, were decommissioned and put on a barge to be scrapped on Raxis Prime.
Pirates attacked the barge, stole the ship and by extension, PP-R31 along with it. They activated the droid, put a restraining bolt on it and had it serve the ships new pirate crew. PP-R31 detested working for the pirates like that because they had no class or refinement and treated him like a metal slave. Unfortunately with the bolt installed he could not do what he was programmed to do and activate the ships emergency locator hypercom beacon.
He washed the pirates clothes, served them disgusting food, played the part of target during their knife throwing contests and worst of all, was only allowed to take oil baths in tubs of the ships used oil. When the ship and it’s pirate crew fell victim to a slave revolt, PP-R31 was more than happy to provide Gene Lorran with assistance in flying the vehicle.
Gene removed the restraining bolt and PP-R31 has since felt a sense of loyalty to the young man and to the ship. He stays aboard mostly, tidying up and performing minor maintenance and custodial tasks like cooking, replacing the toilet paper, sweeping the decks, doing laundry and flushing the waste collection tank.
And while he was never designed to be a permanent pilot, he also serves as Gene’s co-pilot of sorts. He’s spent more time in the pilots chair than all the other R series PP droids combined.
