A Coast Guard helicopter went down in the pacific earlier today. It was flying north from Oregon up to our Air Station in Sitka Alaska when all contact was lost. Three of the four Coasties who crewed the aircraft are presumed dead. One was picked up by a good Samaritan and was transferred to emergency services. I'm not sure what his current condition is. Recovery efforts for the dead crewman are still under way.
I'd take it as a personal favor if you'd take the time to say a prayer or lift a glass to these guys. They get paid only a little more than peanuts to go out into some of the worst weather on earth to save the people who make sure you can order crab at a restaurant.
EDIT:
I'm 90% sure that the aircraft was CG 6017.

Unfortunate news. Makes you think of how real and dangerous this world is.

I know a lot of the Yeoman in Sitka, it's hard times there. Several guys from our unit here in Ketch are moving there to help with the situation.
I encourage everyone, like i did for the last chopper accident, if you can spare a few dollars, to donate. They'll probably set up some kind of fund for the family of those deceased. You can call any number you may happen to find for air station Sitka and the person who answers should be able to connect you to someone handling the donation pool.

just an update for anyone who cares.
They found the bodies of the 3 dead crewmen and the survivor is severly injured.
It was in fact CG 6017 which had left Astoria, Oregon and was headed back home to Sitka Alaska. The Helicopter went down near the coast of La Push, Washington.
