The battle had concluded with the death of the seeming general. Since then the dead and wounded had been gathered up. A morbid scene as healers fought for most of the lives of the men. Zilfer stood atop one of the only remaining walls. It was clear whatever had brought him here wasn't going to take him home any time soon, not that he really considered any place truly his home. Yuri despite having died had appeared in this realm too, but he was... different. He had also met a curious man that reminded him of his once second in command Niight. He had held ears similar to this Elifain, perhaps the Isunzil clan hadn't really been from their realm. He knew not for that was lost history possibly never to be found.
A silent figure approached from behind him. Niru, it was funny. They were more friends than father and son. Their attitudes of life so different, yet each had experienced their own hardship in life. Zilfer had grown up alone with few friends, and Niru had as well. Yet they were close to opposites.
"Nigaru says he's going to wait a few days before moving out. His men will then march from where that army had come from," spoke Niru gazing out into the distance.
"Unforunatly, we don't have that kind of time to waste." said Zilfer his eyes going from a deep blue to that of a placid grey color as he turned to face Niru. "It's funny, we see familiar faces but they are all of the dead. Tell me Niru what do you remember before you arrived here?"
"I remember Yukiro walking in the gardens with our youngest daughter. Then.... nothing. I don't remember anything else, do you think everyone here is dead then? What does that make this? Hell? Perhaps that is why Sark's seed in me has come to pass yet again, but why would he try and come through me.... He wanted into our realm, not this one."
"Who knows the minds of ascendants. They play their games and we mortals are just the ant hill that's knocked over," said Zilfer looking down to see Yuri his arms crossed leaning against the wall down below. All he did was watch the proceedings, they had fought in the deep underground and together they had been a force not to be trifled with.
"Speaking of which, rumors are that you've Ascended. Zilfer of Shadows, the man who killed thousands of warriors in combat. The traitor now saw in new light as the man who threw down the Empire. At first there was an uproar when I announced my linage," said Niru grinning when he remembered the scene. The silence had spoke louder than words, for the man the Empire had painted as the worst man to ever exist had a son. That son was now the appointed emperor himself. "I'm sure you would have loved to see their faces."
"I don't care what they think, my reason for my past are my own and whatever they should paint about history I'll leave to the damn historians," said Zilfer as he began to walk towards the stairs of the tower.
"Still so harsh.... and bitter. Have you forgotten how to show love my father...." whispered Niru to himself. He lingered but for a moment before following Zilfer down the stairs. Once down he arrived to see Zilfer standing on the edge of the broken battlements waiting. It seemed he was ready to leave. Niru wondered if Elifain, and his companion Rindel had survived the battle. Things had been so busy as of late that they hadn't even ran into each other.
"I hope Nigaru doesn't run into any more trouble. He's got enough problems as it is," said Niru as he brought his cloak around himself. This morning was cold but the sun was out and beginning to thaw the morning frost upon the ground.
"He'll be fine, he lead a rebellion didn't he? I'm sure he can lead these men just as well." said Zilfer who threw his hood over his head and began to walk away. Battle everywhere he went, and it seemed no end. Wherever he went Zilfer always left someone dead or someone broken inside. One day that would change, Niru promised himself.
