Yes, its just about that time of year again. No, not Christmas. BHOD's birthday! This thread is really just a reminder that the time for our forum's annual games is fast approaching and to give you all a preview of what you can expect this year.
The Grand Tournament
The main event. Here BHOD's best battle for bragging rights and the biggest prizes. Like every year before, this tournament will involve one vs. one Player Character battles in a large tournament format. As to how the battles will be conducted this year I'm still undecided.
Some options I had in mind were either A:) Point based RP. This is something I've seen done on other forums for regular battles but seemed a bit too tedious for our main RP. However for the tourny it might work perfectly. Basically both combatants post their moves and then a third party (a judge, likely a mod) posts a score for each character. The scores are based on the creativity, the thought, and the fairness of each combatants posts. Who ever has the highest score at the end would win. This would mean that even if your character is killed you might still win the match.
Obviously since this would require better posts and a third poster, it would take longer. But I plan to start the games earlier this year anyway to help make up for some of the time problems we've had in years past.
B:) The second option for this tournament would be to do it DnD style. That system should be in place here by then and would make the battles strictly strategic and even luck based.
Fleet Tournament
Another enduring event, this tournament is specifically for those whose expertise extends more to large scale combat as opposed to one on one character battles. As with previous years the participants in this tourny are given a budget with which to purchase a fleet for the tournament to duke it out with. I had a few ideas on how to make this tournament fresh for the next round of games.
For one I think the point based RP would work well for this and having a judge follow every round of posts would certainly clear up some of the confusion that these battles tend to create. Second I was toying with the idea of having losses suffered in battles through the tournament being applied to future rounds. Meaning if you pass the first round with only 4 fighters thats all you'd have for the next round. Just a thought though. =P Finally I think I want to combine the ground tourny with this one to make it into an all out war tournament.
Trivia Game
20 days, 20 questions based on Star Wars and BHOD trivia. Who ever has the most correct answers at the end wins a fabulous prize. Not much changing here.
Short Story Contest
Just like the last few years there will be a short story contest. This is one you can (and probably should) start thinking about now. I can tell you for sure that all entries will be due by February 20th, so as of when this was posted you have over two months. I also will need some judges for this contest, so if you'd like to volunteer please PM me. Note that you can be a judge and submit a story. I trust you all to play fair.
Dice Game/Cantina/Gambling
Everyone's favorite semi addictive passtime will return for a second go round this coming year. The rules for the dice game this year will be simple. You no longer will have to pay to roll, you're free to roll all you want. Even rolls will net you credits equal to the amount you roll and odd rolls will cause you to lose the amount you've rolled. All credits lost will be placed into a jackpot which will go to the first person to roll a "7". If you lose more credits in a roll then you have you'll just be reduced to 0. If you have 0 credits you can't roll.
In addition the Cantina will make a comeback with plenty of unique items to buy. Most will probably be useful for the DnD, but some could also apply to the main RP. Plus who doesn't love a Tatooine Sunrise for brunch?
And, of course, what dive would be complete without a little betting? You will once again be free to bet your credits on the outcome of tournament battles.
And thats basically the plans for this year so far. If you have any other suggestions or possibly questions don't hesitate to post them here. This year I anticipate the games will start in January (Probably the 3rd) to give more time for... well everything.
