The Federation transportation vessel exited hyperspace over the planet of Mon Calamari. Josh looked out one of the view windows at the planet. From space it looked beautiful. But then again, that could be said for most planets. The vessel carrying roughly 50 newly enlisted recruits finally touched down at what was called, "Federation HQ". The vessel finally settled down and the loading ramp opened. All 50 recruits filled out including Joshua.
Immediately they were barked at by some instructor, "Stand in rows of ten! No more, no less! Move!"
Fanatically the 50 new recruits got into rows of ten. The instructor then inspected the rows. Josh stood at full attention. He then awaited the next order. Whether it was to do 50 push-ups or whatever fancied the instructor.

Zero was's too far away when the shuttle carrying new recruits touched down to let off its load. He was laying on his side on a box in the shade of a different box, munching on an apple. He didn's seem worried that his officer uniform could get dirty. In fact, the blue uniform had collected dirt, despite the metallic floating city.
Zero couldn't help but smile as the Sargents worked the new recrutes over. Technically, Zero was on leave after returning from Nar Shaddaa a week ago when the battle finally ended. New people joined his personal army or navy, giving him new ships, and to top it off, he gained posession of a new capital ship, Gaia, and the sword that came with it.
Once the Sargents had the recrutes lined up, Zero tossed his apple core in the trash and slowly made his way to the recruit's, looking them over with a relatively keen eye of a military man. Once he made his way around, he went to the Master Sargent in control and wispered something in his ear, before standing back to let the sargent speak
Alright, the Lt. Here thinks thats you all have weak endurance, but I think I agree with him. Fortunatly, because you are all new, you get to wait for the top top brass to show up and sort through you, which shouldn't be too long. Unfortunatly, until then, you all must stand there at attention without food, water, or rest. Be lucky I'm not making you run like the Lt. suggested.
Easier said than done. On a hot, humid day like today, and after a long enough trip, it would be hard to stand very still and wait. Zero went back to his spot on the box to wait for some top brass to show up.

In the orbiting shipyards, Spirit of Fire, the Leonidas-class assault carrier, was going through its final stages of modifications. Already, part of its guts were worked over, making much more space, and more than doubling what it could carry in fighter's shuttles, and other crafts, as well as adding more than a foot of Durasteel and divited and speckled black plasteel plates, and a fifth shield generator to focus on the new, much larger hanger. The new hanger took up part of the lower part of the large ship, running all the way through one side and out the other, and was able to accomidate larger crafts. It was made from cargo space and four smaller hangers.
The job had less than a day to go before it was ready, a half day until the armor was ready, and a final half day until the new shield generator was installed. [/sub]

When Josh saw the officer walk over he could tell he was looking over him. And when he heard they had to stand there to test his endurance, Josh thought of it as chump chance. Standing still for a long period time is hard for some. The key is to not faint. Which he did early on in his training with his father.
He couldn't help but grin a bit. However he stood straight, and firm at attention. The only thing now was how long would it take for someone of higher rank to come fetch them?

Zero was up and walking around before too long, eyeing some of the recruits. Some seemed to be handling this quite easily. Some other's, not so well. He carefully looked over a young woman, not caring if anyone noticed. By now, much of the current military, besides those new, knew about Zero being a womanizer. Right now, he didn't act, but just looked from her, then scan the group, then back to her. A small blush apeared on her cheeks as her eyes glanced at Zero, who finally spoke up.
Aright, rooks. Relax and sit in some shade, and get plenty of water. It's good that you can obay simple order's, but soon, you will be asked to do what could be considered suicide missions, and god only knows when those orders will be asked of you. If any of you need anything, feel free to ask me or one of the Sargents. Dismissed.
Zero walked to his previous spot... again, and took a seat, drinking from a nearby bottle of water. He had the authority to order these kids around, but acting out of turn was never good, even with the Federation.
After setting his water down, Zero pulled out a small dagger from what seemed to be thin air, and began to sharpen it on a whetstone he had in his pocket. [/sub]

When they were finally given the order to stand down Josh found the nearest water supply and began to fill up. It wasn't because he needed it. He just didn't want to suffer the consequences later on from what he just went through. When Josh had his fair share of water he used his right forearm to wipe the wetness from his mouth. He then proceeded to where the officer that just instructed them was at.
When Josh was finally five yards within the man he stopped and saluted, "Private Joshua Mador, sir," Josh said as he stood firm. "I was wondering, where might my barracks be sir?"

Zero opened one eye when he heard Josh walking closer to him. He didn't know who he was until the kid spoke his name. Before doing anything, Zero sat up fully, stretched his arms, and let his blue eyes drift to Josh.
At ease, kid, and don't be so formal with me, i'm not even suppose to be giving any orders, but im one of those people who get the power. hehe. The barracks? Pick a spot of shade and relax: there's your barracks. You will get a more permanent room when you get assigned somewhere. [/sub]

"Thank you," Josh replied. "By the way. I never got your name," Josh said as he walked a few paces from the man, put down his pack, then sat down in the cool shade. He could noticeable tell the difference from a shaded area and a non-shaded area. But growing up in the military Josh was use to all sorts of climates do to moving alot.
Josh put his head back against the cool steel and closed his eyes. He started to take slow, deep breaths. To be honest he was kind of nervous. Talking about joining the military is one thing. But when you're actually part of it, knowing what you have to do, it can be nerve racking. But he wasn't going to let himself get ahead of himself. He was just going to take it one day at a time.

Name? What the hell are those? 'Round these parts, we have numbers, clicks, and stacks of dead insects to show ourselves apart.
Zero laughed at his small joke. It was extremly obvious that Zero was lieing, and the western accent he had when he spoke made it that more obvious. After a momen't Zero quited down to speak again.
You need to have some humor when your around me, just to let you know. Call me Zero, and when I am fully on duty, just add in whatever rank I am that day. It tends to change almost daily, and which ship your on. [/sub]

Zero? What kind of name was that Josh thought to himself. "Nice to meet you Zero. And sorry for being uptight. I'm usually like that at first. Once I get to know who you are, I'll start to loosen up," Josh said as he opened his eyes. He then thought about his question. He didn't know which ship he was on. "I wasn't really assigned to a ship. I was just told to report to HQ."

Better be soon, kid. And you will be assigned somewhere soon today. For now, relax and enjoy the break, or watch some holo-news, or do something you like doing, and even make some friends.
Zero spied on the same young woman he was looking at earlier. This time, she was sitting in some shade drinking a bottle of water. A small smile apeared on Zero's face as he fought back old habits. A month ago, he would have been all over her, but he had to play the big man for now. He sighed, eyes closed, and smile still on his face
Make sure make at least one lady friend before going off to battle. Thier touch the night before is like nothing else. I think you could respect that.
Well, Zero managed in one area, but failed in another. His more perverted side made its way out again, and perhaps tainting the mind of Josh more than what could have been done already. [/sub]

Josh could see Zero had a thing for women. Probably the womanizer. However, Josh had his own girlfriend back on Tatooine. Well. Soon to be fiance. But that would probably be a couple more months. Josh reached into his back pocket and pulled out the only picture he had of them together. When he looked at the picture he couldn't help but smile. He was already missing her physical presence. But he knew she was with him mentally.
Josh then looked up at Zero. "What is there to do around here Zero?" Josh asked as he hoped up from sitting down. Josh wasn't the type of person that liked to waste time. He wanted to do something constructive with his time.

Yup: sit back, relax, and wait to be shipped out, unless you have your own personal ship here, and its nearby, then you can mess around with whatever's in there, or you could spar with someone, if your into that sort of thing.
Zero opened one blue eye, and looked at Josh, who was now standing. The kid didn't seem like the one who liked to sit around too much, but that would change quickly, perhaps not as fast as Zero, nor in the same way. Zero sat up so he could take a drink of his water. [/sub]

"Sparing. I haven't done that in a while," Josh said as he looked around. He then looked at Zero. "Would you be interested?" Josh said as he playfully tried to punch Zero in the right arm.

A officer walked among the student. His rank was a Major. "ALL YOU PONY ASS MAGGOTS GET YOUR ASS IN FORMATION." He shouted getting their attention. He looked at the group of new recruits as they formed a line. "I am Major Tribbles and you are my knew GI's." He looked over and seen Lieutenant Zero near by. "Lieutenant Zero. Should you not be on the other side of the goddamn training ground with the rest of the Air Calvary pussies." The major said in a harsh tone.
He then turned his attention to his recruited. "Okay people. I got your names on this datapad here. I well say your name and then your unit. Pay attention or you well be running laps around this base tell your feet bleed." The major started to read off names. Eventually he got to Josh. "Mador, Joshua. You are Second squad." He said sharply as he finished the list. Once he was finished he looked at the recruites. "No clean out your ears and pay attention. You first bunk inspection is at 1500 hours, chow is at 1600, light out at 1700. Tomorrow we start field training. For the rest of the day you report to your Sargent, get your issued equipment. Your in the Army now." He said, turning around and headed back to his tent.
Sargent Pirce walked up. "Second Squad gather around me." The second squad had ten people in it. Four humans, three males and one female, five Centauris and one Mon Calamari. He waited for them to form up so that he could give them his little welcome to hell speech.
