Name: Pegasus
Information: The Pegasus Project was started nearly eighty years ago by Darth Revan under a veil of absolute secrecy. The project was so secret that not even his apprentice, Darth Malak knew of the projects existence and was forgotten when Darth Malak overthrew Revan. Over the dead world of Malachor V, a shipyard build within the debrie field was assembled and would scavenge parts from the destroyed Republic and Mandalorian fleet in order to construct Revan’s twisted design.
Revan had nothing but the highest dreams for the project, seeing it as the cornerstone of securing his empire for all time. The project, lead by Project Lead Alex Autorie was given the task of incorporating Star Forge technology into a starship; to create a carrier with could operate independently, away from fresh supplies from the Star Forge. Recruiting some of the greatest minds in the galaxy, the project diverted only a fraction of the Sith Empire resource thanks to the abundant ships in the Malachor V graveyard.
Starting by reverse engineering the Rakatan technology, this was the most time consuming aspect of the project. The reason for this was Revan resolve to keep the project secret. The team could only go to the Star Forge on a few occasions, but mainly had to work off of computer models and other schematics taken of the Star Forge. The team eventually developed manufacturing design which could take the same Matter Energy Converter (MEC) used by the Star Forge. Just before Revan was overthrown by Darth Malak, the design team had the two MEC built by the Star Forge and sent to Malachor V.
The team then went into building the ship which would house the automated production capabilities of the Star Forge. When Darth Revan was believed killed by Darth Malak, Alex Autorie chose to continue the project under the same veil of secrecy which Revan had demanded before in hopes that the Dark Lord would return to reclaim his position. The construction continued for seven years however when it was clear that Revan the project was dissolved with the Pegasus adrift in space around the dead planet. Until (insert name of character discovered the ship in orbit. They finished installing and activating the ships systems and then claimed the ship as their own.
Dimensions:
Length: 2300 Meters
Width: 900 Meters (Hanger Bay Pods Extended) 500 Meters (Hanger Bay Pods Retracted)
Depth: 400 Meters
Picture:
Ship Appearance: The Pegasus while a custom construction built in secrecy, influences of Alex Autorie could be felt in the design. The ships shape resembles many Mandalorian ships taken from the Malachor V graveyard to construct it. The hanger bay pods mounted on either side of the ship can be extended out and retracted. When the bays are retracted, the hanger connects directly to the end of the ship’s drone fighter’s production line and flush with the ship. When they are extended they are open all the way through, allow ships to launch and land either direction. The ship can jump to hyperspace with the pods extended however it does reduce the maximum hyperspace speed.
The interior of the ship itself is broken into three separate sections. The after third of the ship is the engine, hyperdrives, reactor cores, and fuel. The eight massive engines and hyperdrive are situated at the aft, and main engineering is located in the middle of the cluster with a fabrication facility which can produce almost any part needed thank to the Star Forge production capabilities. At the heart of main engineering are the hypermatter annihilation reactor and two smaller fission reactors which power the ship’s manufacturing equipment, engines, shield and other equipment. At the back is the hyperdrive and its backup, and surrounding entire engineering is the engine access ports and Jeffry Tubes which lead to components which are tucked away. This entire section also can serve as a secondary bridge and can be sealed off from the rest of the ship in cause of emergency or boarding.
The center of the ship houses the most important part, the manufacturing center. This section of the ship starts just before where the hanger bay pods extended outward just after end of the hanger bay pod and extends the entire width of the ship. At the center of the production is the Matter Energy Converts of built by the Star Forge. These take raw solar energy and matter and fuss it into elements needed for producing the drone fighters. The production path then snakes outward towards the hanger bay pods approximant nine meter wide and sixteen meters high. The entire process is automated, with catwalks following the entire path which allows access to the machinery and sections, Periodically along the way is a blast door which can isolate a section in a matter of seconds if need prevent an incident from spreading to a different aspect of manufacturing.
The bow of the ship, from just before the hanger bay pods forward, house the remaining systems of the ship. At the heart is the bridge of the ship, protected approximately 200 meters of ship in any direction. Because the ship was buried within the ship before the invention of the holographic bridge, all the information is feed into the ship using monitors. Crewmembers monitor every aspect of the ship from stations while the captain and his first officer often stands in the middle able to give orders to anyone on the bridge.
Pegasus Bridge
Located just back from the bridge is the ship’s massive computer core. It is almost ten times large then that on a Star Destroyer is required to house the vast amount of data required not only to operate the ship and calculate hyperspace jumps, but also to provide nearly unbreakable encryption, control of the drone fighters and all the data needed by the MEC’s and ships manufacturing equipment. The computers stores all the information for every part of the ship and of its drone fighters which allows it to manufacture nearly anything it may need. Going outward from these two areas, a person could find crew quarters, several mess halls, medical bays, repair and fabrication bays, Jeffry tubes which allow access to thing such as communication array and deflector shields, recreation facilities and armory.
Weapon Payload: The Pegasus’s design never called for offensive weapons to be installed. The reason for this was the ship was considered a carrier, it would deploy its fighters away from the battle and should all its fighters would be destroyed it would simple retreat to construct more. To risk the two MEC and the production facilities did not seem prudent when Interdictor-class Cruisers could be used at much risk. It would take a long time to install weapons onto the Pegasus because no major power conduits were installed into the outer hull except from the ones leading to the low powered point defense system and the few large one which feed shield system. The entire ship would need to be put into drydock with structure cut out and production, hull and shield strength sacrificed to equip her with any meaningful offensive capability, so it was never done.
Defensive Systems: The Pegasus’s defenses are extremely will design because the importance of the components which it holds. The first line of defense of the Pegasus’s it is drone fighter wing. Besides the fighters, the ship is outfitted with eight hundred point defense lasers scattered across its hull. These lasers are low power, just enough to destroy incoming missiles or discourage fighters from making attack runs.
The primary defense of the Pegasus is its shielding system designed by the Mon Calamari Engineer Alksar. The shield system consists of a primary shielding system and a secondary fortifying shield. The primary shield is shield which would often be considered weak for a ship of its size and is comparable to that on a Victory II-class Star Destoryer. The reason for these lower powered shields is because they are the most powerful shields that could be produced with a quick recharge. These shields are capable of recharging in halve the time of a regular shield. Alksar however came up with brilliant solution to compensate for this; a secondary shield which could be projected while the other shield was recharging. Using a secondary powerful shield generator is capable to project over a shield as strong as a Imperial II-class Star Destroyer over a single arc, Victory I-class Star Destroyer over two arcs or only Strike-class Medium Cruiser over three of the arcs. The idea was to defend fortify a section of the shield that has collapsed in order to give the primary shield generator time to recharge.
The final line of defense for the ship is it thick hull. The ship hull is almost twice as thick as a normal capital ship of its size. The thickness of the hull is not to protect it from enemy fire, even though that is a consequence; it was designed to survive intense heat and radiation of operating near stars. The ship also has bucking cables, long cables made of high conductivity material which are used to increase the surface area of the ship in order to bleed off excess heat while collecting solar energy. The weakest point of the ship is when its hanger bay pods are extended to launch or collecting fighters so it is recommended that the hanger bay pods remain retracted as much as possible.
